TROLL’S TOY are Jorge Loura (baritone guitar), Gabriel Neves (tenor saxophone) and João Martins (drums).

 

They took a risk and created a version of the traditional “power trio” with their own signature, subversive and intense - unique and purely instrumental.

 

The drum and percussion work is intense, dramatic and inventive, catalyzing all chain reactions; the saxophone explores such broad registers that it appears to create dialogues with different directions, when, in fact, we are in the presence of a monologue; and the guitar disguised as bass is precise and omnipresent.

 

In 2019, Troll's Toy released their debut album '18:05', which already showcased their fierce originality: energetic music that blurs boundaries, crossing the universes of rock and jazz. In 'Eksterordinare' (2021), the trio refined the formula and elevated this energy, exploring contrasting environments - from explosive tension, shock and confrontation, to moments of atmospheric calm. The title of this album is actually the Esperanto word for "outside the norm", "extraordinary" in the sense of "out of the ordinary". 2023 was the year of 'Synesthesia', if on previous albums the music was more concise and explosive, now it’s more exploratory.

 

Troll’s Toy will end the year of 2024 with ‘Palingenesis’, another album that celebrates improvisation as an act of pure and irreparable creation. The trio’s unique chemestry will b tested again, in 2025, with another call on their consistent and innovative trajectory in the European music.

 

Troll’s Toy is where the sound universes of jazz and rock come together in an unconventional format that encourages us to simply appreciate.
