TROLL'S TOY
A B O U T
TROLL’S TOY is a fearless three-piece formed by Jorge Loura (baritone guitar), Gabriel Neves (tenor saxophone), and João Martins (drums). Forget the traditional power trio: they’ve reimagined it into something raw, subversive, and entirely instrumental. Their sound fuses rock’s muscle with jazz’s unpredictability - explosive, cosmic, and impossible to pin down.
The drums drive the music with intensity, drama, and invention—sparking chain reactions at every turn. The saxophone stretches across registers so wide it feels like a dialogue between multiple voices, though it’s a monologue in disguise. The guitar, masquerading as a bass, is precise and omnipresent, carrying silence as powerfully as sound in this laboratory of noise and nuance.
Improvisation. Serenity. Fire. Fever-dreams. Dynamics. Progression.
Their 2019 debut, 18:05, revealed a fierce originality - energetic music that dissolves the lines between rock and jazz. On Eksterordinare (2021), the trio turned up the intensity, shifting between explosive clashes and atmospheric calm. Its title, taken from Esperanto, translates as “out of the norm” - music beyond the ordinary.
With Synesthesia (2023), the trio expanded their horizons, opening a spontaneous dialogue with pianist João Salcedo. More exploratory than ever, the album blends jazz and rock in an unconventional setting, reminding us of the rare beauty of deep listening.
Their last release, Palingenesis (late 2024), continues along that path - embracing improvisation as pure creation.
